Giuseppe Alagna of Benvenuti, Wins the 2021 Walnut Creek Calipolitan Cocktail Contest

This cocktail’s inspiration comes from the beauty of California. From the northern redwood forests (rosemary), to the southern farm lands (orange blossoms), to all the wine in between (wine Amaro). All of California coming together to make the Calipolitan.

Benvenuti’s Calipolitan:

2 oz Vodka

.75 oz Rosemary simple syrup

.75 oz Fresh lemon juice

.25 oz Napa Lofi Genatian Amaro

1 dash Sadaf orange blossom water

2 dashes Fee Brothers orange bitters

Shake with ice, strain into coupe glass, garnish with fresh rosemary sprig

Notes:

The rosemary simple syrup is a 1:1 sugar to water ratio (equal parts) with about 6 fresh rosemary sprigs for every cup (put rosemary in the water with the sugar and heat up). Making small batches is recommended.

Napa Lofi Genatian Amaro (available at Total Wine and More). Make sure you are getting the Genatian Amaro Pink Label (not vermouth).

Sadaf Orange Blossom Water is the secret ingredient that makes it taste so good (available at Kasra Market and Sunnyvale Market).

The Fee Brothers Orange Bitters is less harsh than angostura. Try only one dash if using any other orange bitter brand.
